The bilingual class

The bilingual class supports pupils who have great interest in the English language. I really wanted to join this kind of class and I'm very happy about my decision because in this class I have the opportunity to learn five subjects in English. In the first two years the teachers strengthen your oral performance and your pronunciation. In class 7 you learn Geography in English. Later on you have Biology, History, Maths and Politics. If it's too difficult you can leave the class and change into an ordinary one.

But in the bilingual class you don't just do your 'Abitur' in English and a bilingual subject like Geography or History, but you also have great class trips to England or exchanges to America. In the 6th class for example I was in England with a nice family for a week. We learned a lot about the English culture, we visited the St.Paul's Cathedral and went shopping in London. That was the best trip of all of my schooldays.

Being in a bilingual class, you have fun spending a lot of time with your friends and also your vocabulary builds up much faster than in ordinary classes because on trips you have to use your English in everyday life. If you manage the bilingual class, you can be proud of yourself!

'AROUND THE WORLD' Erdkunde in englischer Sprache

'AROUND THE WORLD'… das ist der Titel des bilingualen Erdkundebuches der Stufe 7.

Bereits beim Übergang auf das LLG habe wir uns für den bilingualen Unterricht entschieden. Seitdem wurden wir darauf vorbereitet. Wir hatten 2 Stunden mehr Englischunterricht in der Woche als die normalen Regelklassen. Und seit Anfang des Schuljahres 08/09 ist es endlich soweit!! Wir haben das erste bilinguale Sachfach

Unser erstes bilinguales Fach ist Erdkunde. Später werden auch Geschichte, Politik und Biologie in englischer Sprache unterrichtet. Der Unterricht funktioniert wie normaler Erdkundeunterricht - nur auf Englisch. Wenn etwas trotzdem unklar ist wird es mit Arbeitsblättern oder Folien auf dem Overhead-Projektor erläutert. Während der Stunde werden wichtige Vokabeln aufgeschrieben, die meist als Hausaufgabe zu lernen sind.

Unser erstes Thema war 'Earth in Space'. Dabei haben wir generell etwas über die Erde gelernt, wie z.B. Erdrotation, Zeitzonen und das globale Gradnetz. Ich persönlich fand das eher anstrengend, da die Sachverhalte oft kompliziert und weniger interessant waren. Zur Zeit ist unser Thema: 'The tropical rainforests' Die Bearbeitung dieses Themas macht mehr Spaß, da man oft auch auf Deutsch schon etwas über die Tropen gelernt hat. Es ging dabei z. B. um die Tier- und Pflanzenvielfalt, die eingeborenen Völker oder Produkte, die aus dem Regenwald stammen. Außerdem sind die Vokabeln leichter verständlich. Interessant und unterhaltsam war auch ein englischsprachiger Film den wir zum Thema gesehen haben.

Man darf bei der Wahl jedoch nicht außer Acht lassen, dass auch in anderen Fächer die Ansprüche an bilinguale Klassen etwas höher sind. Aber: Der bilinguale Zweig ist etwas für Alle, die viel Spaß an Englisch haben und auch in anderen Fächern - vor allem Deutsch - gut sind.

Bilingual Education at Landrat-Lucas-Gymnasium

Hello and welcome to Landrat-Lucas-Grammar School! This is an article about the bilingual branch.

I'm in the bilingual class 7e. My English teacher is Mrs. Wirtz. But since the beginning of this year we got another teacher who speaks English with us: Mr. Koppe. He's our English and Geography teacher, and these two subjects together result in the education we have with him: Geography in English. It's not easy, but after a few lessons it's normal for us to speak English only. Sometimes we have a lesson when we speak German, but that happens very rarely. The advantage of bilingual education is that you have to speak English in the English lessons and of course in the subjects you have in English. In the 5th grade the English classes have two more English lessons than the other classes. Of course, it's really hard, but when you want to be able to speak English well you have to learn, learn and learn.

Another advantage is that you can go on a class trip to England in the 6th class, for example to London's Tower Bridge or Canterbury Cathedral. All these advantages are offerings you can't find at another school in Leverkusen. So maybe we will see you at our school. All the best and good luck!

Der bilinguale Zweig

Man nehme: Extra viel Englischunterricht und manche Fächer auf Englisch. Das ist das Besondere am so genannten 'Bilingualen Zweig'. Es macht viel Spaß so gut Englisch zu können wie Deutsch. Wir können schon einen sehr großen Teil aller Worte, die wir kennen, in das Englische übersetzten. Man lernt es wie eine 2. Muttersprache. Außerdem erfährt man bei diversen Unterrichtsthemen viel über die englische Kultur, Sport, Legenden, Sprache, Historik und vieles mehr. Sehr wichtig ist, falls man sich für diesen Zweig entscheidet, dass man gerne Englisch spricht und auch an England interessiert ist.

In der siebten Klasse ist ein neues bilinguales Fach hinzugekommen: RB. Dies ist Erdkunde auf Englisch. In RB lernt man viel über englische Fachbegriffe wie zum Beispiel 'nutrients' zu Deutsch Nährstoffe. Natürlich bearbeitet man auch viel über die Welt und über die Natur.

Mir persönlich macht der Bilinguale Unterricht sehr viel Spaß. Ich finde, dass es eine Bereicherung am Unterricht ist. Es ist auf jeden Fall für spätere Berufswahl förderlich.
